What is a Talking Dog?
Okay, I am not crazy, my dogs are not speaking English (yet), but they sure can communicate in an amazing way!  Many people ask me what it means when we say that our dogs talk, and others request this trait.  I thought I would make a page to explain this amazing phenomenon!

Schnauzers and many other breeds are known to 'talk'.  It is a cute little growl typically accompanied with a little howl-like 'arooooo!'.  Cute, huh?  It is a pretty neat little trait that most owners find very endearing,  yet others mistake it for aggressive growling, which simply is not the case.  Talking should never be mistaken for aggression.  Aggressive growling is more like  a snarl, and usually includes bearing of the teeth, hair standing up on the back, lunging, and aggressive stances (pacing, staredowns.....you get the picture).  Pretty scary!  Oh, and I almost forgot, it doesn't mean the dog is barky at all, they just like to chew the fat with thier human friends!

Many of our Schnoodles and Bassetdoodles will carry the trait of Talking, so if you are one of the lucky few, consider yourself blessed!  Not all dogs will do this, but many can.  Some families ask us if we can pick a puppy for them that will talk, and it is difficult to tell when they are young.  Although, typically if the mother carries the trait, there is a good chance the puppy will also have it.  You can encourage the puppy to communicate this way and many times it will bring out the talking, too. So if you are talking to your dog and he suddenly starts 'talking back' you now know you have what is considered a Talking Dog!
