How do I adopt a puppy from Uptown Dogs?
As we are a small home breeder, usually our puppies are only available via our waiting list. Occasionally, we will have available puppies listed on the Puppy Nursery Page, too.
First I invite everyone read through the site to familiarize themselves with our policies and breeding program. Do you have allergies? I also suggest visiting Uptown Dogs to expose yourself to our dogs. We would rather you find out early on that you are allergic to our dogs than after bringing the puppy home. I also suggest reading the info I have written about our Schnoodles or Bassetdoodles, to help in your decision on choosing which breed is best suited for you The info we share on our site is referenced from 20+ years experience in raising our dogs. There are many differences between breeder’s lines and how they raise their puppies. What we share is info we have gathered about OUR puppies. I can’t speak for other breeders or their experience with their dogs. We feel our unique socialization program; healthy diet and superior breeding stock make for wonderful puppies.
Once you are ready to move forward and join our waiting list, you will need to complete the online adoption application and submit your deposit. Be sure to list your preferences in size, coat, breed, color so we can help choose the puppy than at is best for your family. You can mail in your deposit if you prefer, (just email us uptownschnoodles@gmail.com to let us know your plans), realizing that our spots do fill up quickly and we do not hold a place without a deposit. The balance is due once the puppy is for weeks old. The wait can be up to 8 months, but typically 4-6 months.
How Do I Choose my Puppy?
We discuss your wants and needs listed on the application so I know what you are looking for in a puppy. If you have a paid deposit, you can watch the puppy nursery page and the announcement page for upcoming litters. I send out announcements of the birth of our litters to the waiting list and everyone can choose puppies BEFORE we offer them to the general public. If you have a preference for a certain litter, you will need to let me know as soon as they are born so we can get you the puppy of your choice. I try to do all I can to match up our puppies to the best home for them. It always works out perfectly, and never had an unhappy family with their puppy.
Puppies will be listed at 5-6 weeks old on the NURSERY PAGE. When you see a puppy in the nursery that matches your needs and wants, submit a request for this puppy. If your puppy is no longer available or you choose to wait longer, be sure to watch for announcements of the next available litters.
Most of our puppies are very similar in personality as we socialize them and handle them daily from the first day. We feel this helps build strong bonding instincts, and the reason we raise our babies in our nursery around our family. We work very hard to ensure all puppies are very bonded to humans. We watch for signs of shyness, indifference, or fear and work especially hard with a puppy to help it meet its full potential. This just cannot take place in a large kennel. Puppies have to be raised with human contact throughout each day in order for them to learn to bond to people, as dogs are a pack animal.
Our socialization program is unique to Uptown Dogs. We have 20+ years of experience in raising puppies, and we have learned many tricks and methods to raising superior puppies. Our puppies are exposed to daily household noises, sounds, people of all ages, and are very accustomed to household appliances, too! Please read our Socialization Page, to read in depth about how we raise our kiddos.
What should I do while waiting for my puppy to come home?
I have prepared a series of emails containing important dates, information and handouts to keep you more than busy while waiting for your little one to come home. Read our pages about preparing for your new puppy; Order your food and supplies now, before the new one arrives. Check into local puppy kindergarten classes, find a recommended Vet, and puppy proof your home.
How will I get my puppy?
You have a few options in retrieving your new puppy
· Pick up at our home
· Have puppy delivered if you live in Western Wa. (We deliver within the state)
· Have puppy shipped via safe flights with Alaska Airlines or other safe Airlines
· Fly in and we will meet you at the airport with your puppy, and carry it back as a carry on with a safe carrier.
We use Alaska Airlines, Delta, United, Continental (only from Seattle), and Frontier for the safe travel of our puppies. There is an all Inclusive Fee of $375 to all U.S and Canadian destinations. We will book everything for you from our end. Please do not try to book these flights yourself, as not all flights are available or equipped for shipping animals. Many times there are shipping embargos or certain airlines require bookings no more than 24 hours in advance, depending on the destination. We try to book for Fridays when possible. We have to book them.
As much as we enjoy meeting our new families in person, we know this is not always realistic. We have had great success in shipping puppies, and they do an excellent job caring for our babies and getting them to their new families. so do not let that deter you from adopting.
The fee for shipping includes; Flight, Crate, Vet Certificate, Delivery Fee. All you have to do is to pick-up your puppy at your local Cargo Office.
We will need the full contact info including phone number of who will be receiving the puppy before we can book your flight. This info is needed on the health certificate as well and has to match.
If you are planning on flying into Spokane Int. Airport and would like us to meet you with your puppy, we will do this for no additional charge. You will need to coordinate this date with me ahead of time. You will want to book your flight by the time your puppy is 6 weeks old for the lowest fares. Be sure to inform the airlines that you will be carrying a puppy as a carry-on for your return flight. You will need to purchase a soft sided airline approved dog carrier. We recommend the size for 25 lbs so your puppy has room to turn around freely.
If you are coming to pick up your puppy, great! We look forward to meeting you in person. Please schedule this with us as soon as possible. Keep in mind that we allow a maximum of 30 minutes per appointment, so please be prompt, or we may have another appointment after yours. Please keep in mind we are in the Pacific Time Zone.
When Is Balance Due?
Once you have made a commitment to adopt from a litter and we have confirmed, the balance for the puppies will be due at 5 weeks old, puppies unconfirmed or unpaid for will be offered to next family on the list. We require all payments at this time, if there is some unforeseen problem, please don’t hesitate to let us know, we are willing to work with you on this if need be.
Something has come up, and I can’t adopt right now. Can I wait?
Absolutely! We understand that life has a way of throwing you curve balls when least expected. In the event that you have to waive your option for a puppy, we will happily apply your deposit to the next available litter or puppy. Be aware that there may be a wait of at least 4-6 months if our list is full, and your deposit will lock in the adoption rates for one year only. If you wait longer than one year, you will be subject to price increases, if applicable. |
