Home of the Original Bassetdoodle!

We are the only breeder that raises this unique and special breed, that we simply named, "Bassetdoodles".

We have discovered over the past couple years that  other breeders are starting to call their cross breeds, "Bassetdoodles" to try and emulate our lines.  Some have used the info from our site in an effort to re-create the Uptown Bassetdoodle.  Do not be fooled, only Uptown Dogs creats the unique combination that is our Uptown Bassetdoodle.  We started out breeding many years ago with the Basset Hound. After countless health issues with our dogs, we decided we needed to look into cross breeding. Our goal is to raise healthy, intelligent, well socialized puppies, that will be an active part of their family's lives. With theses goals in mind, we discovered the Schnoodle. After many healthy litters of Schnoodles, we started thinking again about the requests for a low to non-shedding hound we have received over the years. That brought us back to our Bassets.

Bassetdoodle Beginnings:
The first litter was a trial litter, as we wanted to see how the general public would respond to this unique doodle. The response was amazing, and we have continued to receive wonderful updates about the first litter, as well as the others since.
Now our Bassetdoodle waiting lists are filling as quickly as our Schnoodle waiting lists, as more people meet our special Bassetdoodles in person. They make a great impression with their sweet Basset temperaments and personality unique to this specail cross!

After having a few litters of our initial F1 cross, we discovered the shedding was still an issue with most colors.  Then I went back to the drawing board to consider the positive effects of an F1B cross.  Our first F1B litter was much less shedding, and  appeared more houndlike than the F1.  Today, at Uptown Dogs, We are now successfully breeding multi-gen Bassetdoodles and have been able to advance forward from the F1 cross.  You will find Boxier builds and squarer faces, more of the Basset Stature, but the nice Bassetdoodle coat everyone is drawn to.  Within our litters, we have the wirey coats to the more wavy soft coats.  Typically the solid colors have the softer coats.  Our Multi-gen Bassetdoodles are also very intelligent with great personality.  Everyone has reported back that their pups are doing great in the Kindergarten classes, friendly and easy going at Doggy Daycares, and their vets are all very impressed with the quality and health of their puppy.

Average Bassetdoodle Stats:
  • 12-15 inches at the shoulder
  • 15-30 lbs
  • Low to non shedding coats (F1 tend to shed, where our F1B sheds lightly to not at all)
  • Many allergy sufferers are able to own a Bassetdoodle
  • Intelligent, easy to train, agile, great with other dogs
  • Friendly, great with children, clownlike personality
  • Playful at times and known for their afternoon "Doodle Zoom"
  • Their coats get longer as they get older, can require light grooming as adults
  • Many love the water or water sports. They also are fun to teach tricks or take to the dog park (not until they receive all of their shots!)

A Note about the Bassetdoodle Coats:
Pure bred Bassets are very heavy shedders. The coat of the Bassetdoodle is coming in as either low/med shed or non-shed. The low shedding coat is much less than that of the Basset Hound. We are told the shedding coats are shedding at about 2 brush-fulls after bath-time as opposed to 8+ brush-fulls of the Basset. This is a huge improvement! We are also hearing back that the Doodles do not have the doggy odor, drooling, or stinky ears associated with the Basset Hound. These are what we feel to be huge improvements.

We continue to take information from our Bassetdoodle families about their dog's coat types. At this time half of the White and Red coated dogs have a low shedding coat, while the other half have non shedding. The solid Brown or Red coated dogs have both been non shedding, and the Tri's are also of both coat types.  Our F1B litters are being reported to be non-shedding to very light shedders!

The Uptown Dogs Bassetdoodle is a unique cross breed created exclusively by Uptown Dogs in Wa.
With the lovely disposition of the Basset, the alertness and non-shedding coats of the Poodle, the Bassetdoodle is a lively companion. Our families are reporting back that their Bassetdoodles are alert, intelligent, easy to train, extremely gentle and sweet natured--all wonderful traits for families with small children and other animals. We have heard from several families that these dogs also love to perform tricks! They have a clown-like personality and love to perform for their families. They are smaller than the Basset Hound, the size of the full grown Bassetdoodles to be 23-35 lbs.

MORE BASSETDOODLE INFO:
The coats of the Bassetdoodles is slightly coarse and either wavy or straight. Truly a combination of Poodle and Basset. Their coats shed lightly as puppies, and many families are reporting back that the adult coat is little to no shed. They are a mellow puppy, playful and alert, but also more docile than most puppies. A very sweet disposition.

We are also hearing that the puppies are very easy to train with consistent training. One family told us that her puppy was the head of the class in her puppy kindergarten, and others have reported back that their puppies were very easy to housebreak.

The Bassetdoodle is a friendly, social, loving breed. They are wonderful with children and other animals, they have great energy, but not hyperactive. A great family dog! The Bassetdoodle is also known (like their Schnoodle siblings!) to perform the famous "Doodle 500" or Doodle Zoom", wherein they run quickly around the house at high speed! It is so funny to watch, and our families enjoy seeing their Doodle get excited. A nice daily walk or round of fetch will keep your Doodle exercised and easily calm them.

If you are looking for an easy going, family friendly breed that is easily trained and excels at agility sports, you might consider one of our Bassetdoodles for your family!

We are taking deposits for our next Bassetdoodle litter. Puppies are $1,500.00

Our F1B Bassetdoodles have a medium length coat, with little to no shedding! Perfect for many families that have allergies. If you are an allergy sufferer this dog may be a great alternative from the Basset Hound as they shed much less and have the Poodle genes, although we still advise exposing yourself to a Bassetdoodle to make sure you do not have an allergic reaction!

Here is a letter we received recently from one of our Bassetdoodle Mommies!

Hi,

Ozzie is officially settled in. I have NEVER seen a puppy train so easily. Forget about the fact that she started telling us she needed to go out in a matter of days, she was easily taught to sit and "down" with a few simple sessions. If I cared for one of those dogs that does tons of tricks, she would be capable! Ozzie's disposition is a totally equal mix of the best of a Poodle and the best of a Basset. She is fundamentally a calm pensive dog with sharp intelligence. Ozzie is also very sensitive and will tell you how she feels by curling up next to you or burying her face into you. She sleeps quietly in her crate all night long which I was not expecting at all and oddly enough I have had better success when I leave her during the day in the gated kitchen than in a crate.
I just wanted to let you know she is really coming into her own and showing us the best of both breeds! If you lived closer I am sure we would grab up her brother Tucker!

"I have to say that these puppies are such a joy to raise---they are all very mellow and full of personality. I am just loving how laid back they are. They have all been paper trained and are doing great when they are running around the house during play time. All of the puppies are just so sweet and each one is very good with small children and other animals. They are all so cuddly, and what I notice is so endearing about this breed is the way they are content when you hold them, they definitely have the Basset mellowness, and they have the intelligence of the Poodle. It is so fun to watch them grow!"
