Allergies!
Are Schnoodles and Bassetdoodles Hypo-Allergenic?----Of the many emails I receive daily, one of the main questions asked is about  allergies and if our dogs are Hypo-Allergenic.  The answer is yes and no.  (While I don't like to say any breed is hypo-allergenic, as that is such a broad area) These breeds are considered by many to be wonderful considerations for allergy sufferers, but that doesn't mean YOU will not be allergic or have a reaction to a Doodle.  Allergies are very subjective to many variables, and people have reactions to allergens for a vast variety of reasons that are individual to each situation.  The Schnoodle is considered a non-shedding breed, and the Bassetdoodle are a low to non-shed coat.   As Basset Hounds are heavy shedders, the low shedding Bassetdoodles shed considerably less than the parent breed---(ex. about 2 brush-fulls of hair at bath time as opposed to 6-10.) This is a huge improvement.

I consulted with our Vet and an Allergist about this subject.  They explained  the different allergens associated with pet allergies.  The allergy flare-ups can stem from the hair, saliva or dander; or environmental allergens on the animal's coat.  You can react to one or all of the above!  There is absolutely no way for me as a breeder to know without a doubt whether or not you will have a reaction to any of these breeds.  Most people do well with these low to non-shedding dogs, but some are still allergic.  Many people report that they are not allergic to Schnoodles and Bassetdoodles, yet others are quite reactive to their coats.  If you or a family member are an allergy sufferer I highly recommend that you expose yourself to a Schnoodle or Bassetdoodle (or both of the parent breeds if the Doodle is not available in your area) before submitting your application and deposit.  Why am I making this a requirement?  I want my puppies to be placed in a home where the family has made a well educated decision.  It is better to take the extra time to do some homework about your allergies now then to have a tearful late-night phone call telling me you have to get rid of your dog.   This is very traumatic for everyone involved, not to mention extremely upsetting for me to discover a family has to let go a well loved member of their family-- how sad!!  Think of how traumatizing this can be for your pet?  Please take the time to do the right research before committing to adoption.

Thank you for your consideration with these issues!  I want to be as helpful as I possibly can to my families with allergies, I feel these precautions are necessary to ensure the BEST placement of my puppies.

If you have any questions about allergies and our breeds, please feel free to email me and we can discuss your personal situation.
